1. HIGHLIGHTS
- INTERNATIONAL GAUDÍ CONGRESS: DEFINITIVE DATES
The organization of the International Gaudí Congress Barcelona 2005 has
already become reality. Words are not enough to express our gratitude for the enthusiasm
with which many of our members have responded to our survey and the high amount
of comments and ideas that have reached us.
After studying the first 1.000 received surveys, we have come to the conclusion
that the best date to celebrate the congress is the first half of November 2005.
The Congress comes into being with an international vocation, where all architects,
art historians, artists and admirers of Gaudí can participate and have the
same possibilities to express themselves in total and absolute freedom. We want
the congress to be an inevitable rendezvous of Gaudinism, and we are working so
as to reach our goal to involucrate the most outstanding experts in these fields.
WHICH ARE THE CONGRESS AMBITIONS?
This congress, the first one that will be realized about Gaudí, ambitions
to discover his versatile persona in all its aspects: The man, artist, architect
and master behind Gaudí.
In all his actions he was constantly looking for perfection as a mirror of the
Creation. Perseverance, efforts, willpower and genius are only some of the qualifications
we can apply on this persona whose work provokes an irresistible attraction or
an authentic incomprehension.
His profound spirituality, his devotion towards Nature, his total dedication to
one work which he always constantly revises… But also his geometry, the way of
carrying out a building, the great works that characterize the silhouette of Barcelona,
the less know creations, the unrealized or lost projects… Everything Gaudí has
felt and lived in his 74 years of existence will find a place in our congress.
Besides, very well aware of Barcelona's enormous charm and convinced about the
innovating spirit of Gaudí, we pretend to give a prominent position to the
new architecture, because of the influences of Gaudí's works on the international
organic-digital avant-garde architecture.
We will also dedicate special attention to the bridge that makes it possible to
make the past present in the future: we refer to the conservation and restoration
of the patrimony.
So the congress is presented as a platform of reflection and knowledge which will
aspire to contain everything related to Gaudí, his life and his work.
At this moment the executive and scientific committees are being established and
meetings and interviews are held in order to communicate our project and to obtain
as much support as possible.
This is a large-scale project and we need everybody's help. Once more, we remind
you, that you can also be a protagonist and collaborate with us by diffusing
the project, bringing in participants, looking for sponsors, communicating
us your ideas…

Given the dimensions of this congress, the Gaudí & Barcelona Club has
the intention to contract an expert in gathering of funds and public relations:
Profile: Mature individual living in Barcelona, with great interpersonal
skills and proven experience in similar field. English, PC and internet skills
indispensable. Age or gender of no importance. Fixed remuneration and bonuses according
to the results. Guaranteed work for one year, probation period included. Possibility
to be subscribed to the Social Security system or to work as a freelance. Preferable
full time availability but other possibilities can be considered. Please, send

- PARTICIPATION OF THE GAUDICLUB
IN THE FÒRUM BARCELONA 2004
Last August 23 rd , the Gaudí & Barcelona Club participated
in the Universal Forum of Cultures Barcelona 2004 with a demonstration
about Gaudí, the first recycler.
The association Gaudí & Barcelona Club participates in
the Forum 2004 presenting the innovating recycler's facet of Antoni
Gaudí and its current applications to protect the Environment
such as the Coconut Pith Fiber.
More than 200 people directly experienced the advantages of the Coconut
Pith Fiber in the Forum.
As a result of our press releases, which we have sent to more than
800 journalists all over the world, various media, magazines, radio
broadcasters and television transmitters, have showed interest for
the news and have asked for various interviews and more information.
- EXHIBITION OF THE CÁTEDRA
GAUDÍ IN MEXICO
Antoni Gaudí, artist of all times is the title of
the itinerant exhibition welcomed by Xalapa –Mexico- until last September
18th. The exhibition was inaugurated on July 8th, with the presence
of Juan Maldonado Pereda, secretary of Education and Culture of the
State of Veracruz; Leticia Perlasca, director of the Institute of Culture
of Veracruz; Araceli Priscione, director of the Painting Museum Diego
Rivera; Carlos Flores Marini, General Commissioner of the exhibition;
and Mario Andruet, architect of the Cátedra Gaudí of
the Polytechnic University of Barcelona.

- 125 th ANNIVERSARY OF JUJOL, WITHOUT
BEING NOTICED

Last September 26 th , it was the 125 th anniversary of architect
and Gaudí's collaborator birth of Josep Maria Jujol in
Tarragona. It's a shame to admit that the anniversary has passed
by without being noticed. The Gaudí & Barcelona Club
we would like to rehabilitate the person of this great architect,
who has always stood in the shadow of Gaudí.

3. GAUDINIAN AGENDA
- EXHIBITION “DALÍ IN PARK
GÜELL”

Last Tuesday September 28 th the exhibition “Dalí in
Park Güell” was inaugurated in the House-Museum Gaudí in
Park Güell. This exhibition commemorates the ceremony featured
by the surrealist painter in Park Güell on September 29
th 1956 . The exhibition goes on at the same time as the celebrations
of the “Mercè”, which is the Fiesta Mayor of Barcelona

- EXHIBITION: "ANTONI GAUDI.
ATMOSPHERE LYRICS"
In Germany, the city of Bremen hosts since last September 12 th the
first exhibition dedicated to Antoni Gaudí. 120 works coming
from the Cátedra Gaudí the Museum of Modern Art of Barcelona,
including furniture, fragments of mosaics, plans, scale models and
plaster models, conform this show which under the title “Antoni Gaudí.
Atmosphere lyrics” can be visited until December 12 th in the Museum
Paula Modersohn-Becker.
The exhibition is based on the influence of Gaudí in Germany
in general and, in particular on movements such as the design school
Bauhaus. The show is completed with a large program including conferences,
music evenings and the projection of four movies related with the architect.
The place where the exhibition is held is no coincidence: The German
painter, sculpture and architect Bernard Hoetger, admirer of Gaudí and
in whose work is marked with a notable Gaudinian influence, founded
in 1926 – year of the passing away of the architect- the Museum Paula
Modersohn-Becker. Hoetger had described Gaudí's work as ''chaotic
and bright, prosaic and sublime, sensual y mystic, modern and medieval''.

THE XIX CENTURY
The Real Cátedra Gaudí is organizing a class-room based
course about Gaudí and the XIX century which will start next
month of October at the address of the Cátedra in Barcelona.

- “GAUDÍ” OPERA IN THE LICEO
OF BARCELONA
Next month of November the première of the opera “Gaudí” by
the composer Joan Guinjoan and libretto of Josep Mª Carandell
will be held in the Gran Teatro del Liceo.

As a non-profit association, we assign all our funds to eulogizing the work and
life of Gaudí.

its streets and buildings from the sky. This is a perfect
complement to know and understand Barcelona's character a little better.

9. CURIOSITIES
GAUDÍ, GARDEN ARCHITECT AND RECYCLER
 |
The facet of Gaudí as a devotee of Nature is known extremely well.
Perhaps not so well known is the fact that the architect can be considered
as one of the first conscious recyclers, as he reused all kind of materials
in his works. |
The mosaic “trencadís” which decorates Park Güell and many other Gaudinian
edifices is basically made of broken glass plates which the architect took from
the ceramic manufactories, such as those from Pujol and Bausis.
Another example worthy to be mentioned was the currently celebrated Pedrera chimney,
which original adorn consists of pieces of cava bottles. In those days, the owners
of the house –family Milà- found the idea little worthy of their status
and it seems to be for this reason that there's only one chimney decorated in this
way.
Besides, Gaudí was also what we call today a landscape gardener; it's to
say a landscape architect. His gardens of Park
Güell and of the Pobla de Lillet are a proof of how he took into account
the landscape when he was designing a work on commission.
