A word from Gaudí ...
“Reflection and action respectively complement and balance each other
and must be alternated. Just like we need both legs to make steps forwards: action
and reflection.”

- CENTENARY OF THE RESTORATION OF THE MALLORCA
CATHEDRAL
Conopeo
of the Seo of Mallorca |
On June 10th 1904, Gaudí started the restoration works of the Mallorca
Cathedral.
Last Sunday June 13th, the “Procesión del Corpus” was celebrated in order
to commemorate this centenary. The procession let us see the reproduction of the conopeo
realized in 2002 by the artist Aureli Bisbe from Mallorca. The original, designed by Gaudí in
1906, got lost. The conopeo which is 1,5 m in diameter, is the symbol of the basilica.
|
Together with the conopeo, Gaudí also created some other liturgy elements, such
as the tintinábulo and a folding stairs, as well as some glass stained windows.
To create these windows he put glass layers of different colors on upon each other until
got the right tone.

13. CURIOSITIES
Recipe of the “Coca
de piñones” of Sant Joan
June 25th 2004: 152nd Anniversary of Gaudí
|
Many of our members have asked us for the recipe of the cake, so as to be able to make it
at home, as they could only enjoy it virtually at 12 o’ clock at night. Now you can really
taste it, if you practice your culinary skills. Prepare it whilst you think of Gaudí! |
The recipe of the coca we let you see is granted by Foix de Sarrià, centenary confectioner’s
shop founded in 1886.
More information about Foix de Sarrià
Besides the qualities of its sweets and pastry, the confectioner’s Foix de Sarrià, from
the times of Gaudí, is also known because it belongs to the family of the great poet J. V. Foix
(1893-1987). Novecentist and admirer of the Vanguardias – artistic movement form the beginning
of the XX century-, this poet received a proposal for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
