1. HIGHLIGHTS

In the last issue of Gaudi News we published the complaints of the forum assistants asking updated information of the Sagrada Familia works. We have decided to dedicate this bulletin issue to the most charismatic Temple of Barcelona.

GAUDI TRUTH & ERRORS CONTEST

Last October 25th the Sagrada Familia Parish School was reopened after being relocated inside the very church precinct and with the aim to recover its original appearance, just as designed by Gaudi. 3. THE SAGRADA FAMILIA LINKS

"The Sagrada Familia in virtual reality" is a project carried out by the Telefonica Foundation and the Sagrada Familia Building Committee. To make it possible the programme "Ars Virtual" has been used, by means of which it is also possible to visit other monuments of the Spanish Historic Heritage.
The cyber navigator shall see the temple three-dimensionally both inside and outside, shall also hear the tubular bells peal as conceived by Gaudi for the twelve apostles towers and will also know historical facts and anecdotes concerning this work.

4. CURIOSITIES:

The Sagrada Familia Temple is an open book of Nature, containing a great deal of animals, each one with its own symbolism: lizards, snakes, chameleons, frogs, snails, dogs, pelicans, pigeons, seagulls, roosters, owls, peacocks...
In the Nativity façade there can be found, supporting the two main portal columns a turtle and a tortoise. The animal facing the sea is a turtle, with fins, whereas the one facing the mountain is a tortoise, with legs.
The idea of representing those animals goes beyond symbolizing the earth and the sea, two elements so close to Gaudí. It is based on the traditional Chinese culture: the rounded shape of its shell looks like a sphere that, without supporting points, would symbolise chaos: a sphere that spins and moves without any control. But the genial architect pretended to represent the cosmic stability, by means of giving the sphere the four cardinal points, transforming them into the four legs of the tortoise.

8. COMING UP
The Gaudi Club is organizing an musical-academic act, that will be celebrated next December in the Sagrada Familia. We're finishing the programme, but we can advance you that there will be speeches that will the different activities that have taken placa during the Gaudi Year, and the Gaudi prizes shall be given and the concert will include the Gaudi Sardana, expresely composed for this purpose.

We're preparing besides, a new exhibition about the architect and his work, that will take place in Barcelona at the beginning of December.
