A Word from Gaudi ...

"My structural and aesthetic ideas are indisputably logical. The fact that they have not been applied before, and that I have to be the first one to do it, has given me much to ponder. That would be the only thing that, in any case, would make me doubt. Nevertheless, I believe that, being convinced of the perfection they entail, it is my duty to apply them."

Antoni Gaudi

The Intelligent "Gaudi Truth & Errors" Contest

To top off 2002: the Year of Gaudi, our club has prepared an intelligent contest in which you can participate, as a member. The game begins now, and will last until early 2003.
In each issue of Gaudi News we will ask three questions, through which we will try to discover the mysteries that have been revealed about Gaudi and his work.

Go to http://www.gaudiclub.com/concurso/eng/log.asp and answer the first questions!!! Here you will also find the contest rules and prize information.

2. SPECTACULAR SUCCESS OF THE GAUDI EXHIBITION ORGANIZED BY OUR CLUB

900,000 visitors in one month! The Cátedra Gaudí exhibition was a success beyond all expectations. To date, it received more visitors than any of the exhibitions dedicated to Gaudí in 2002, the 150th anniversary of his birth.
We would like to thank everybody who took an interest in our exhibition, especially all those visitors who chose to share their comments - and completely filled two entire guest books, each with more than 250 pages. We will gradually publish these comments.
Many of our members and friends have shown an interest in seeing the exhibition. Aware of that, we are happy to announce that we will soon be opening a virtual version of the exhibition on our website. In this way, you will be able to freely enjoy the exhibition from anywhere in the world. It is a favor that we owe to you. We will also be preparing to offer the exhibition poster for sale at a special low price to all those members who have expressed an interest in purchasing it.
This exhibition is mobile, and we can place it - or a similar show - anywhere in the world, upon request from our members.

3. WORK
Restoration of the Mallorca Cathedral

In 1901, the bishop of Majorca asked Gaudí to take charge of the restoration of the Majorca Cathedral.
At http://www.gaudiclub.com/esp/e_vida/mallorca.asp you can learn about Gaudí's contributions to this edifice, where he tried out a few elements that he would later use in the construction of the Sagrada Familia.

4. CONTRIBUTIONS FROM OUR MEMBERS

Please don't forget that, like you, all the members of the Gaudí Club enjoy learning about the experiences of others. We invite you to participate in our website and to share your comments, photographs, articles, panoramic images, videos, etc. Just send them to info@gaudiclub.com, explaining where you are from, what you like most about Gaudí and telling us about your hobbies. This is what we received from Chen, from Taiwan, and Chris Fulmer, from the United States. Remember that you, too, can be the center of attention in the next issue of Gaudí News:

- Ethan Chen and his wife traveled to Barcelona for the first time. They say that the works of Gaudí, when observed directly and in person, are beyond the vision offered by any photograph.
http://www.gaudiclub.com/ingles/i_partici/chen.asp

- Chris Fulmer was impressed with Gaudí's works, and tried to capture his greatness in a few photographs.

5. WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE GAUDICLUB FORUM

Tim proposes an interesting idea: why not permanently install video cameras to film the entire process of the construction of the Sagrada Familia?
http://www.gaudiclub.com/forum/indice.asp?PAGE=1

Gaudí was a total artist: architect and interior designer, he knew how to work with ceramics, iron, wood, etc. Perhaps one of the least known facets of this genius is his skill as a landscape designer. Many of our members have shown an interest in this aspect of Gaudí. Come join the debate!

The Year of Gaudí is causing a genuine revolution: the whole world is joining in the celebration of the anniversary of the birth of the architectural genius.
