1. HIGHLIGHTS: HAPPY AND GAUDINIAN HOLIDAYS!!!

All the Gaudi & Barcelona Club team wishes you nice holidays.

If you find any work of Gaudi, or having its style, don’t forget your Club, and send us your photos and/or comments!! We shall publish them in our web!!!

2. THE MISTERY CASE OF THE VANISHED STREET-LAMP... SOLVED!!

[sequel]
When the news of the vanishing was known, the Club sent their sagacious photographers to the scenery of the crime; a sad stone pedestal marked the place of the fact, but no other clue so as to go on with the research was found. The Club got going. We asked to and fro, but nobody seemed to be aware about the condition of the victim, so it headed its steps towards the Town Hall. There, after some fruitless phone calls, they informed us that the street lamp, gravely damaged, was being repaired in a workshop in Palau de Plegamans, out of Barcelona. We hope to get photographs of the regrettable state in which it remained.

After eight months of patient wait, when we were discussing the suitability of undertaking more emphatic actions, a phone call startled us. Xavier Pigrau, the architect of the Architecture Department of the Barcelona Town Hall, told us that the street lamp was again in its original place, although unpainted.

It is a pity that those Pla de Palau street lamps, like the Plaza Reial ones, are so unnoticed for all the people visiting Barcelona, and that few of them will know who designed them.

Do you want to know more? Read the press note.

3. GUITAR CONCERTS IN BARCELONA AND GIRONA

The prestigious musician Manuel González, a member of the Club, evokes the musical landscapes of Gaudi in a cycle of guitar concerts. Bearing the title “The guitar and romanesque art”, González plays this Summer an interesting program in Barcelona and Girona.

The casa Batllò, mortgaged.

Daniel Giralt-Miracle, National Prize of Culture
We congratulate our friend Daniel, who has got this honour for his comissaryship of the “Gaudi. Art i disseny” exhibition, an excellent one, in which the pioneering role of the architect in many of his artistic features was vindicated. And also for his active role as the comissary of the Gaudi Year 2002, the150th anniversary of the illustrious architect birth.
This is the first time that a specific prize devoted to design is granted.

6. GAUDINIAN AGENDA

The opening of an exhibition about Gaudi in Sankt Petersburg.

7. THE SYMBOLOGY IN THE SAGRADA FAMILIA

THE FROG

An animal that needs humidity, it announces rain, almost in a prophetic way, and it has the faculty of avoiding the mishaps which come to it by jumping agilely.

THE SEAGULL

Flying and gliding majestically with its enormous wings and being suitably distanced from everything being earthly, there on the high, it only dives to attack accurately its preys. It represents the divine help, which is in heaven only intervening, when necessary, on the human beings’ side.
