Inauguration of the Gaudí
Park of Alella
"Alella, in the Maresme region, famous for its wines, hosted Gaudí
for 10 summer vacations, and he also left his mark there."
Alella.- The Gaudí Park, a public space promoted by the local town
hall to pay homage to the illustrious architect Antoni Gaudí, was
inaugurated in Alella on April 14. The park, designed by local architect
Mr. Ribas, is a rest and play area for young and old. A sculpture by Pili
Plaza has been installed, and the small monument to Gaudí that was
dedicated in 1965 which until now had been located behind the Sant Feliu
Parrish Church, has been moved.
The event, presided by the Mayor of Alella, featured the presence of the
commissioner of the International Year of Gaudí, Mr. Daniel Giralt-Miracle,
the conservator of the Cátedra Gaudí, Dr. Joan Bassegoda,
and Mr. Vicenç Llorca of the regional government of Catalonia.
Several of the aforementioned personalities spoke. Dr. Bassegoda told of
Gaudí's passage through Alella, and emphasized the interest of this
town in the architect, having paid him homage as early as 1965. Later, Mr.
Giralt-Miracle took the stage to express his gratitude to the Alella Town
Hall for the initiative, and discussed the importance that the act of appearing
from this time forward in catalogues and guides related to Gaudí
will have for this town.
Thereafter two commemorative plaques were unveiled: one at the park, and
the other at the house where Gaudí stayed during his visits to Alella,
on Calle Anselmo Clavé (Carrer de Dalt). A bouquet of flowers was
also placed at the latter site.
