Gaudí and the images of Modernisme
An image has the power to rapidly draw one in; it can reach an observer despite language or culture barriers.
The freedom of form in Modernisme as opposed to the traditional language of the eclectic approach led Gaudí and other architects and designers to exploit to the full the expressive potential of drawing as the basis of architectural composition.
Thus, historical photograph archives, drawings and plans by architects and designers, prints, publicity material and postcards all provide a very important source, albeit often neglected, for study of Gaudí and Modernisme. Furthermore, photographs and drawings of Gaudí also constitute an important fount of artistic creativity which is deserving of more attention.
In this 8th edition of the Workshop, our aim is to discover these historical images and see how they can inform our present-day view of architecture.
